Why We're Building This Differently

Written by: Josh Fields

When people first hear about Adam's Way, the assumption is usually the same:

"Oh, so it's housing for people with disabilities."

And while that's part of it, it's not the point.

We're not building a program. We're building a community — one where residents with and without disabilities share the same spaces, the same neighborhood, the same everyday life.

Adam's Way is designed as a mixed-use, integrated environment. That means apartments for people of all abilities, yes. But also spaces for work. Places to gather. Opportunities to be part of something bigger than your front door.

Too often, housing in this space has been built around separation. Different buildings. Different locations. Different expectations.

We're intentionally doing the opposite.

This project is about proximity. It's about making sure that someone with a disability doesn't just have a place to live, but has access to the same everyday experiences as anyone else. Walking to get coffee. Running into a neighbor. Being part of something without needing it to be structured.

Residents with disabilities and residents without disabilities — living side by side, not because a program placed them there, but because the community was designed for everyone from the start.

That's why location mattered so much. That's why design matters.

And that's why this can't just be another development.

It has to feel real.
